Who is Daikin?
Daikin has long been a major name in the HVAC industry, and has recently entered the U.S. market with its superior technology and engineering. Daikin’s HVAC systems are respected by industry professionals for this reason, and the brand also uses environmentally friendly materials in its products. Its R-410A refrigerant, for example, does not harm the ozone and minimizes ambient warming, which keeps its footprint low. Daikin pioneered this form of refrigerant – a forward-thinking approach to air conditioner design that is seen in all of its processes.
Daikin’s Product Offerings
In 2012, Daikin broke ground on the Daikin Texas Technology Park, located in Hockley, Texas. The technology park is where Daikin’s and its other brands (Goodman and Amana) are built, and it’s one of the most impressive manufacturing centers in the industry. With more than 4 million square feet of manufacturing, design and administrative space, Daikin’s newest facility is the pinnacle of HVAC production.
It’s no surprise, then, that Daikin’s products are quickly gaining in popularity. Like most AC manufacturers, Daikin divides its products into several series, including the SA, SN, TC and VC models. Here’s an overview of each:
1. The SA and SN Series – Daikin’s SA and SN Series are the company’s economy models, and they are ideal for homeowners that want to keep their upfront investment to a minimum. While SA and SN systems aren’t as energy efficient as Daikin’s more advanced offerings, they are more efficient than the vast majority of existing HVAC systems. HVAC technology develops quickly, so property owners don’t have to spend a lot to get the efficiency they need.
The SA and SN Series can manage SEER ratings up to 16. SEER is the industry standard measurement of system efficiency, and the higher the number, the better. SEER is calculated by measuring the amount of cooling a unit provides, compared to the amount of energy to produce that cooling.
Federal regulations require HVAC systems to provide at least a 14 SEER rating, so the SA and SN series exceed those regulations, while also providing cost savings.
In addition to a strong SEER number, the SA and SN Series are built with a filter drier that keeps contaminants from entering the home from the compressor, a galvanized steel cabinet and a baked enamel finish that protects the compressor from corrosion and weather. The baked finish is essential for areas where humidity and airborne salt are concerns.

2. The TC Series – The TC series can boast SEER ratings up to 19, a significant boost over the brand’s economy models. The TC Series is also built with the filter drier, steel cabinet and enamel finish, so it’s just as sturdy. However, while the SA and SN Series are built with a single-stage compressor, the TC Series comes with a two-stage compressor, allowing for more precise control over the air conditioner. Further, the TC Series is built with a sound control blanket that reduces operation noise.
Two-stage compressors are an emerging industry technology and are built into many higher end systems. Two-stage compressors are designed with a low speed and a high speed mode. The low speed mode is the default setting and provides sufficient cooling with reduced energy usage. On those days where more power is needed, the compressor will switch into high speed mode, which emphasizes cooling.
The TC Series is also compatible with the brand’s CoreSense and ComfortNet systems. CoreSense is advanced diagnostics software that responds when there are issues with the unit’s performance. The homeowner is alerted and the issue logged for further review by a technician. ComfortNet is Daikin’s advanced control system, which can be accessed at the unit or with a remote device. ComfortNet allows for advanced control, including long range programming, auto heat and cool changeover, independent humidification control, airflow speed trimming control and an energy management recovery program.

3. The VC Series – The VC Series has everything the SA, SN and TC Series have, but it brings two more features. For one, it offers a SEER rating of 23, which is one of the best in the industry, across all brands. The VC Series is also built with a variable-speed compressor that responds automatically to cooling and energy conservation needs. Variable speed compressors are like two-stage compressors, only with hundreds of speeds instead of two. With a variable-speed compressor, the VC Series makes much finer adjustments to the compressor’s output, ensuring it is always providing the perfect mix of cooling and energy efficiency.
